One night you asked me,
“How do you define love?”
To which I riposted,
“How do I elucidate it in layman’s terms?”
So I contemplated about this to myself:
Is it the reciprocation of respect and trust amongst lovers
Or the sustained array of passion & dedication in the relationship?
Is it feeling safe & comfortable around the other person
Or getting weak in the knees whenever you’re around them?
Is it breaking your walls down & being vulnerable around the other person
Or being invincible for them to lean on?
Is it trusting someone enough to let them know your hidden demons?
Or accepting them despite knowing the myriad skeletons stowed in their closet?
Is it being ecstatic at the sound of their voice on the other end of the line?
Or smiling when their name suddenly crossed your mind?
Is it the momentary bliss derived from physical intimacies?
Or the sustained interest derived from the intercourse of superior minds?
Is it the euphoria whenever you’re together?
Or the melancholia whenever you’re far apart?
I believe all of these paradigms explicate love.
But more than that,
I fervently believe that love is the union of the heart, mind and soul.
