It’s too early to deem this as an unfortunate day. Everything went smoothly as I arrived at the vicinity a tad too early. I was definitely expecting to conduct a class and start with the new lesson on Price Elasticity of Demand.
After 3 hours, the wait was finally over. I was walking along the corridors of the 3rd floor along with some of my students who came for me (Isn’t it sweet that some of my students would go out of their way to walk me to our class everyday?).
All of a sudden, we heard a tumult emanating from every classroom. All of us were pretty confused but then we just went on our way towards the stairs. Little did we know that we’re doomed.
We were walking down the stairs towards the landing when…Boom! It’s like hundreds of caged horses were galloping towards their freedom. It caused a stampede.
Here we are, at the right place and at the wrong time, need I explain what transpired next? Okay, let me go on with the rest of the story as it’s the only way for me to calm down. My heart is still beating fast at the moment while penning this piece for I haven’t recovered from the ordeal yet.
To continue, the kids were pushing amongst each other and me and my students were being radically forced down the stairs. I fell hard on my bottom and scraped my fingers. It hurts but it’s quite tolerable. So I immediately stood up and looked at the fate of the fallen (my beloved students).
It’s a good thing I’m well informed when it comes to first aid as I was able to help these kids treat their cuts and bruises (Apparently, there was no nurse available at the moment).
Moving forward, there was no class that happened today for when I went to the faculty to inform them of the accident, I soon discovered the reason for the commotion.
Instead of conducting a class for Grade 9 students prior their NCAE (National Career Assessment Examination), the institution decided to have a program for the rest of the day in relation to the upcoming Founder’s Day.
So the kids who didn’t want to attend the program rushed to and fro the corridors and stairs causing this minor incident.
It’s a good thing I was able to pen my thoughts about this matter coz at last I’m finally at peace. Earlier when it happened my body was in fight or flight mode and the adrenaline rush really affected me like I can’t relax. Too bad I’ve gotta change my phone’s screen protector. But at least, no one was seriously injured and I was able to provide these kids with my assistance. That in itself is rewarding. So why should I consider this as an unfortunate day? Let’s say that it turned to my advantage since the kids were seeing me in awe & admiration.
